Ok… What is Chia?
Chia Seeds aka Salvia Hispanica seeds are the richest plant source of omega-3 fatty acids known, not to mention loads of antioxidants, Vitamin C, B, dietary fibre and much more. It’s a member of the mint family, originating in South/Central America and had been a staple food of the Aztecs for centuries. These seeds grow naturally in two colours, black and white. Some companies are claiming that the ‘white’ seeds are more nutritious than the black. This just simply isn’t true. Both black and white seeds contain essentially the same content of omega-3 and nutrients.

Ways to eat chia? top
Chia seeds don’t need to be ground. It’s common to mix them into any number of things like yogurts, fruit and vegetable juices, soups, salads, eggs, cereals, etc. The seeds can however be ground into or purchased as Chia ‘flour’ and added into flour recipes for use in breads, cookies, muffins etc. one can also pre mix the seeds with water (1 part seeds to 8 parts water) and mix into anything you want to add a nutrient rich punch to. The chia seed gel can be used as a thickener and can replace an egg in your favourite recipe “See recipes”  You can add chia seeds to almost anything you eat without affecting the flavour, and of course it adds rich nutrients we all need.

What is the difference between White Chia and Black Chia?
There is much debate about whether white chia is better than black. The fact of the matter is the nutritional difference is minimal. For our customers who prefer the white colour, we carry them of course. Here is a study done to test the difference between the two colours nutritionally so you may make the decision on your own.

How much chia seed should be consumed per day? top
The usual daily amount of chia seeds for one person to eat is one or two tablespoons(15-30g). There really is no ‘restrictions’ as to amounts for one to eat but shouldn’t be necessary to exceed 3 tbsp or 45 grams per day. In order to achieve the goals set out for daily recommendations of Omega 3 (4 gr) anyone can eat 30 grams or approx 2 tablespoons of chia seed provides large amounts of omega-3. This also offers your daily goal of fibre and on the way to reaching calcium as well.

Storing of the seeds? top
Chia seeds will stay in the same condition at room temperature for over 2 years. No need to put in the fridge or sealed containers. Unlike flax seeds which go rancid in a short time, Chia seeds stay fresh for years can be a useful tool for those survivalists and EOTWers who wish to store food for extended periods.

Is grinding or washing Chia seeds mandatory? top
Unlike flax seeds, chia seeds do not need to be ground for maximum benefit. The body is able to absorb the nutrients whole. Washing is also unnecessary while the seeds can absorb up to 8 times their volume in water.

Is Chia safe? top
Chia seeds were eaten for centuries by the Aztecs and Mayans, being one of their main staple foods, along with corn, beans and amaranth. Chia seeds are a pesticide free naturally growing seed, and not a dietary supplement. They are allergy free and may be eaten without restrictions. If you have any concerns always consult your doctor but don’t be surprised if he/she tells you to start eating Chia seeds immediately.

Chia has a unique a balance of fatty acids and fibre, the first which is higher in calories and the latter very low, while acting as a good source for keeping one regular. The expansion of Chia seeds in the stomach can aid in giving a feeling of fullness, helping to make one feel less hungry overall.

Arthritis helped with Chia seeds? top

At this time we use PayPal as our main online payment source. You have the option to use your Credit Card through Paypal without having an account with them. Other options include money order or cheque, but for those processing time may be a little slower. Your credit card number is not stored on our site.

We use PayPal and we do not see, nor do we have access to the credit card numbers sent to Paypal.

Which is your privacy policy? Do you store or share information? top
